Saddle Question - Need Info

I've had the pleasure of acquiring a beautiful saddle. I was in the market
for a McClellan 1859 and stumbled across something else. The previous
owner said it was a McClellan, but it didn't look like any that I had ever
seen, 1859 on. However, it fit my horse perfectly and was very nice for the
price.

At first glance, it looks like an English, perhaps Hunt Seat. However, it
has the open seat of a McClellan. One saddle maker said it looked like a
Whitman saddle and an old catalog seems to confirm it as a Whitman Plain
Skirt.

The problem is that it does not look like it was made around 1900, and no
one knows if any repros have been made of this model. It does show some
wear/tear, but I've been told that it is in great condition, overall. It
lacks the markings of a "true" Whitman, according to the catalog.

I have some photos, if they will help anyone ID the saddle. If you know of
any reproductions of this model, all info would be helpful and appreciated.
It seems to be a popular model of the time and everyone seems to like it
now, but I can't find much on it.

Thanks,

M

Whitman is in Cincinnati and the owner lives next door to our farm. Go to
the web site www.okeanahorseapparel.com and there is a link to them.
